Extra Credit

How come girls are the ones always being taken and in distress??? Is it because they are considered vulnerable or that the bad guys just like them? Either way it is just teaching little kids that girls are weak and can't defend themselves. But that shouldn't be true because girls can and should be able to stand up for themselves. That's just not how it is though. All the movies and all the cartoons will always have the girl taken.

Who has the brains???--Extra Credit

It seems that men have always been viewed as being the smarter gender. For years it has always been so. Even way back in the day women were not thought of as being smart so only guys were allowed to participate in medicine and science and other scholarly activities such as politics. However, the two highest IQ’s ever recorded both belong to women. It is just kind of interesting how even though women have been put down for so long, they still hold the highest IQ scores and many people use that as a bases as to how smart a person is. And even so, women still are not always thought of as being as smart as a guy.

Ketchup!

So I was stumbling earlier this week and I came across a page that had old posters and propaganda. The pictures were entertaining and as I was scrolling down I came to an add for Delmonte Ketchup. The picture says "You mean a woman can open it?" It somewhat made me laugh but when I thought about it for a minute it really describes how life was at that time in history. Men were seen as strong and women as weak. If a woman couldn't open a jar she could always hand it over to a guy to open. The add was just saying they made the lid easier to get off and the person opening it didn't have to be super strong. It was just a cool idea they had at the time and I liked it. Even today those types of lids can be hard to get off, though I think it is harder to get the ketchup out of the bottle at times.

Fun, Fun, Fun!

Some sports are just not fair. When people first think of an athlete in a certain sport chances are they think of a guys name first. Like surfing or snowboarding; most people probably think of a guys name first however, it is really no longer a 'guys' sport. Old shows portray guys surfing while their girl just sits on the beach or just sits on the board. Today however, movies and shows have chicks surfing more often and even competing against guys. In such movies, like Blue Crush, the chick normally out does the guy and gets more credit for the sport. It seems like the movies just want to show that women are capable of such activities too leading to the new times when women are being closer and closer not looked down upon by society.

Good Wife's Guide

It occurred to me the other day when I was hanging with my friends that women are still expected to do all they can for men. Back in the day there were magazines and books to tell women how to be good wives and proper women. They were suppose to have dinner prepared and freshen up for the man when he gets home from work. During the day she was expected to clean the house and take care of the children and everything else. When my friends were planning their prom they were trying to come up with a time to meet and all. I realized while they were talking that all the guys have to do is shower and throw on a tux. The girls however have to get their hair done, make sure they have a dress that will make them look good, and have their make up fresh so they are appropriate to be in public with the guys.

Also, there was an episode of wife swap on and there was one mom who had a job and took care of herself by pampering herself and there was a mom who still went by the old book that told women how to do everyday jobs. The one who followed the book always had dinner ready when her husband got home, took off his jacket and shoes for him, and freshened up her makeup before he arrived. It all just seems sad that women have to do so much in order to look appropriate and do every little whim for their man while the men just have to shower and work. Men should have to do some nice things for their women too. It shouldn't be just one sided.

whoop whoop!!!

Oh, spring break....A college kids favorite time of the year. A time when they can chill in the sun, drink up some beers, and watch all the beautiful people in their skimpiest outfits. It is the time of chillaxin when there are no worries about school. However, everyone studies everyone else. Guys always drule over the girls in their bathing suits, or lack there of. And girls always look for the tan guy that seems to have some muscles. Everything shown on TV about spring breaks always looks somewhat pathetic. There are always contests to see which girl looks the best, what guy has the best body, or even some just to try and get people out of their clothes. These contests always seem to have the best looking people on them, showing everyone else how they are suppose to look. Also, it seems as if most of the contests do more to try to get women to participate mainly because guys just want to see girls with nothing on and the girls who do participate are just trying to show off. It really degrades women and challenges the masculinity of everyone down there. Either your gorgeous and participate in these events or your not so you don't get to.

Ring Dane...<3

Girls have always had the appearance of being graceful and elegant. They are suppose to dress appropriate and act "lady like." This past weekend was my sisters ring dance and it was so funny watching her and her group getting ready. Usually my sister does try to use make up, sometimes too much, and dresses nicer I guess. Watching her in a formal dress tough was hilarious. First, her friend came over to get ready and when she had her dress on she came out to show it off. She came out tried to do a spin and practically fell over. There goes the gracefulness. Then when my sister and her friend were out front getting a picture taken, my sister decided to spit. I couldn't believe she actually spit when she was in a dress and all dolled up. Totally not "lady like" at all. Later when she came home, she was carrying the train of her dress in her hands. Somehow at the dance the extra piece of material that served as a train got ripped of at the seem. The whole being graceful and elegant and polite thing didn't seem to cross their minds at all. But I guess that is just them.
